Drow Society

General
The Drow society is Matriarchal. Drow females are stronger and more powerful than the males. Drow males are treated more as servants than people and are there to do the bidding of the females. The highest-ranking male is still lower than the lowest ranked female. Marriage as such does not exist. Matron Mothers often have more than one patron. Only one is the current patron. When they are no longer needed they are either sacrificed to Lolth or put to work within the house. Other females may take, then discard, males when they please (sometimes merely leaving them, but usually slaying them). Females treat males with contempt. This is how they are taught to treat them from birth, (all drow children can understand their own language from birth) and this tutoring carries on within Arach Tinilith, the drow school of Lolth.
Females hold all positions of power and responsibility in government, the military, and in the home. Males are effective fighters, and can become priests and wizards of minor power.
Outside drow communities, males are rarely encountered without female commanders. Male-commanded drow groups are generally either streeakh, "suicide squads", or are dobluth (outcasts) who have rejected the traditional authority-structure of the drow.
Individiaulism is bad. people who are odd, look different (too tall, too light skinned, green eyes, etc etc.) usually are bullied and killed at a young age, or freakishly defective are sacraficed.
Common facts:

Sphere of darkness is not some innate ability that is cast on instinct, a junior priestess or father figure teaches it.
Drow CAN sleep but usually they dont. They usually "Reverie" for four hours a day instead which is like sleeping but they just review memories.
Good drow usually DON'T Reverie.
There are two types of drow hand sign. One is house only, the other is Underdark drow. surfacers can not learn this, and even surfacer drow won't be able to understand it completely. (think of someone from england hearing american english spoken really fast...it makes it hard to understand due to accent but it's both the same language)

Drow society:

Drow are VERY religious be them good, evil, or neutral. It's a way of life.
Drow society is based on social castes, you are either a] part of a noble house, or b] part of a merchant CLAN (There are no such things as merchant houses)
In house disputes, nobles are the only ones allowed to testify. Example, a common male drow cannot testify against the noble male drow for killing a priestess*
There are many loopholes in drow law, and this is to add to the chaos of the system. a common male cannot testify against the noble male, but a common male can tell a priestess and the priestess can outright accuse. BUT priestess can't do anything to the noble male without the permission of the matron of the house that the noble male belongs to, etc etc. (The pecking order has quite a few loopholes and circles) The 'law' system like this is so twisted that often it's not used.--it only aids in discreet and secretive revenge and is so much of a headache that accusations are -rarely- ever made. And when someone is convicted they are punnished for getting CAUGHT, not for committing the crime.
The first thing that drow are taught is that if anything bad happens it MUST be the surfacer's fault (especially the elves)...which I can't stress to rp this enough. We're talking even the littlist things of "Ow, I tripped and fell...well maybe I wouldn't of hurt myself on the cave floor if those damn dirty elves didn't force us underground."
Nobles are more likely to be sacraficed instead of commoners. (hahaha) The better off a creature is, the happier lolth is.--The closer a drow resembles HER, the happier she will be. Example, Lolth would be happier having Delaralia Vandree sacraficed to her than Obsidian Shadowborne.
Priests of Lolth are rare and are shunned, more so than priests of selvetarm, because priests of lolth usually don't make it far and are harassed/picked on/abused to the point to where they lose their minds and throw themselves off cliffs (that's why they're so rare and I personally don't think they should ever be allowed because they're just that rare)
